A post event...
and the other great games….
The Games
After 48 hours of intense development, our 6 teams presented their games to the judges to find out how they did. On the judging panel we had
Ross Mills - Realtime Worlds
Kestutis Tauckela - Realtime Worlds
Jesse Knapp - Realtime Worlds
David Thomson - Denki
Peter Shea - Firebrand Games
These were the games under review:
The Hueys - A puzzle platformer developed on XNA. The game consists of...
REBELLION
Yes, we have had our first outburst, as violent crowds swarmed the organisers. Things could have turned ugly. Security might have to be called……
OK, so they were not really violent, or swarming - but there were a couple of unhappy teams, and they had a bone to pick.
You see, it is all down to the contracts. Global Game Jam (not the Scottish Game Jam) changed contracts at the last...

45 hours and counting
So i’ve broken my previous personal best of staying awake for 36 hours and I couldn’t have picked a better moment than GGJ! Everyone here is powering through, working away furiously because in less than 12hours they will have to put down their graphics tablets, keyboards and mouse and step away from their baby.
We have a couple of people who have succumbed to tiredness and they have...
30 Hours in, and they are tumbling like flies
Yes, it is as much about endurance as it is about creativity and technical skills. And after 30 hours it is hard to keep going without a power nap.
Scottish Game Jam - LIVE!!!
24 Hrs
We have just passed our first goal of SGJ. The first 24hr mark. And amazingly we have some very playable games.
I have uploaded some examples, so that you can see the quality of work being produced in Glasgow - in such a small space of time.
Day 2
It’s day 2 already and things have not quite started with a bang but hopefully the smell of freshly brewed coffee will arouse people from their slumber state.
I just realised that we made no mention of the theme and constraints, so without further ado here they are, *drum rolls please*
A complete play session must always last 5 minutes or less
The theme of the game should be “As...
Day 2 - Morning
Ok so it’s 5:30am here and still dark outside. Teams are still working hard although a couple of the guys crashed around 3:30am, the red bull is not working!
Me on the other hand? Survived just fine along with Gume. Chatted to the guys in Costa Rica, they have the moves!
Now it’s time for me to go home freshen up then come back for some more of this non-stop action…..
01:45
We’re almost approaching the early hours of the morning and the teams are working away furiously, at least those who stayed behind!
I’m resorting to snacks to keep me awake :-)
My impressions of the day? Things went well, no major hiccups well except for a couple of technical glitches here and there but that’s expected! We have a great team atmosphere here.
The keynote was...
..... and we're off
What a vibe! The Jammers watched the keynote presentation and Romana gave teams their game constraints. Once set, everyone met up in the Saltire Centre to share ideas and create teams. Everyone
We have also set up the webcam so you can watch the drama unfold live on the net TV (see below for links). You will also see that we are watching our friends across the globe on the three monitors.
Set Up
So, we have been busy setting up the technical bits. Still some way to go before kick-off at 5pm, but the machines are now in place.
Above is a pic of Brian McDonal lending a technical hand.
DAY 1
So. It is nearly time for perhaps the most high pressured, caffein heavy game dev competitions in the world - the Scottish Game Jam.
Students and professionals will forgo sleep for 48 hours to develop a fully playable video game. To ensure that development is all within the set 48 hrs every game must be aligned with a number of rigid criteria, which are not revealed to the world until 5 pm...
